GROUP CLASSES
Parker's Canine Care & Training provide a range of group classes to meet your dogs needs.
Group classes are a great way to work your dog alongside others, which is a skill on its own. Group classes have a max of 4 participants meaning class dynamics can easily be taken into account.
There is a class to suit all with more classes on the way.
6 week gun dog class for pet dogs
Did you know exercise is addictive? Exercise feeds exercise.
The dog becomes an athlete and needs more. They beg to go out, they are restless, they follow you around like they haven't been out for years.
This course was designed after I met a Pointer who was in this exact loop.
I put this course together after attending the Gun Dog Academy ran by Jules Morgan and Helen Phillips.
I love running it, its designed for all gun dog breeds living as pets. They need an outlet, they need to hunt or retreive they need to work alongside their human doing things they are designed to do. The human learns so much about their dog, I truly feel at the end, regardless of what progress has been made the human and dog leave as a team.
6 week course £120
This course is only run a few times a year but if you would like a human who stays by you, listens to you, loves being in your company and completely understands why you do what you do then get that human to pop your name down on the waiting list.
Calming Course
Who is this course for?
Its open for all who feel their dog struggles in new environments.
This course has been created with the Click to Calm techniques from Emma Parsons in mind, it goes beyond sending your dog to stay on a bed, its asking the dog to want to go to the bed and rest, to relax on it and not expect further instruction. You will be learning clicker training, body postures that show relaxation, arousal, and why it happens and what it looks like.
We will be incorporating Pattern Games designed by Leslie McDevitt, these are games designed to help dogs deal with their environment. This course is not to be rushed, it will seem repetitive to the human but this is the way dogs learn. Each week it will get harder, locations will change adding a new layer of distractions to train through, time will increase on behaviours and rewards and we will increase the distance from which we stand.
This course really influences behaviour , we will change their mind set.

Happiness

Village hall to teach a down stay with duration on a raised bed. Pattern Games for breaks.

Training field to proof stay. Raising the difficulty of the criteria.
Pattern Games for breaks. Start clicker work for relaxing postures. End with find it games.
WEEK FOUR
Training field. Clicker work for relaxing postures. Break with Pattern Games.
Raising criteria by adding distractions. End with Find it games.

All dogs on raised bed offering a relaxed down stay in Chippenham fields in Monmouth. (Fingers crossed!)
Hoopers is low impact, free flowing sport yet with the pace and excitement of agility. There are no jumps and no tight turns which really makes it suitable for all.

Hoopers is an all inclusive, low impact sport. It offers so much, builds communication skills, it gives you and your dog the ability to work as a team. They read your body language as you guide them around the course. Seeing this development over the weeks is really lovely to witness.

ENRICHMENT
As a pet parent your purpose is to provide your pet with the quality of life they deserves. Dogs love to sniff and they love to work.
Reduces frustration
By providing a correct enrichment for a breeds natural biological desires we reduce frustration and decrease unwanted behaviours.
Scent work has a plethora of health benefits. I can't recommend it more.
When a dog sniffs they close their mouth, when that happens they inhale through their nose deeper in turn lowering their heart rate. Scent work truly is the equivalent to yoga. It's also brilliant for dog who suffer from any form of reactivity as it can be taught on a individual basis.
What could be better than tapping into your dogs natural abilities and using them together, working alongside each other as they were bred to do. It really ticks all the boxes.
Lowering heart rate means we can help reduce stress and regulate our dogs parasympathetic nervous system. This improves the mood of the dog which makes them learn, process information and even make better choices.
Scent work in the snow.
All types of weather and environmental conditions effect the way scent travels. Snow makes the scent dissipate making it harder for the dog to track.

Lead walking and Recall ⋆
Lead walking and Recall are lifesaving skills!
Lead walking is actually unnatural to a dog. The ribs cage and skeleton sit over the front legs, the weight isn’t equally balanced throughout the body. This means lead walking is a skill they learn, And one needing to be taught from puppyhood. We can also avoid leash frustration if taught in the critical learning period.
Our dog population has grown exceptionally, local councils and woodland trusts are requesting dogs to be kept on leads in more areas. We need to make sure they are comfortable using one.
The importance of Recall
Without Recall you have no management techniques left to fall back on. If your dog runs towards livestock, a dog on a lead, a child, the elderly. Anything your dog wants to investigate or get closer to for whatever reason and you know its not safe or cause upset you as the dogs advocate need to be able to get your dogs attention and for them to come back to you.
I know how important it is for dogs to get ff lead time, it reduces many behavioral issues, the better the recall the more off lead time your dog can have.
Recall Workshop
Light snacks, Tea, coffee and juice available half way through to keep the humans working. Some races and fun games to finish.
Important information
This workshop will take place on the training field, irrespective of the weather. Handlers will need to ensure that they are dressed appropriately for the weather conditions, including footwear.
Please bring a standard collar/harness, lead and long line. No slip leads, no flexi leads. Long lines are supplied if needed.
Dogs need to be able to work with other dogs in close proximity. Dog to dog reactive dogs need to book in for 1 to 1 training sessions.
You will learn how the brain works, the psychology behind a recall, the breed specific tendencies and why a recall is likely to fail.
